Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!

Man, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted a blog.  THAT will never happen again.

Too Many Cooks.  Over the past several months, there have been some technical issues I had to solve, and then some regulatory changes I decided to address, and pretty soon too many people were telling me too many different things about something as useful and elegant as my blog.

Well, No More. Often, my mind has a brutal way of telling me I’ve lost my way.  Last night I had a dream that I was still married to my ex-wife, living in our old house, and she was telling me really stupid things about how and what I should do with my blog.  I woke up in a cold sweat before I realized that it was 2018, not 2004.  In other words, message received.

What To Expect.  Look, I like writing my blog.  I enjoy the medium, and it affords a particular flexibility that email messages do not. So, going forward, here’s what you can expect from it:

  1. Competent, clear insight on a wide array of useful financial topics, including investment strategy, the economy, saving money, spending less, reducing taxes, running a profitable business, retiring early, or even staying retired.
  2. A thoughtful mix of compelling pictures, on-location videos, clear graphs and useful downloads.
  3. The blunt, cheeky style, to which you’ve become accustomed.

No Mattress Money.  For example, there is a certain high pressure financial “guru” out there who promotes the idea of saving money by putting cash in a bunch of envelopes around the house.  The theory is that if it’s in cash, in an envelope, you’re less likely to spend it on something else.  Unless you’re robbed or there is a fire.  Most homeowner’s insurance policies will only insure up to $200 in cash, maybe $500 if you’re lucky.  So, unless these special envelopes amount to less than $200 in total, the disciples of this strategy are taking an arcane, unnecessary risk.

Still Got It.  Insecurity is not something with which I normally struggle.  But this blog hiatus has shown me how important it is to be mindful of all the lessons I’ve learned along the way, when I consider new ideas.  Especially new ideas purported by those who have not lived through my particularly brand of “trial by fire” life experience.

It’s About You.  Look, my whole goal with this site, with my clients and with my life is to help you Live the Life You Love.  Whether that’s through simple education, offering perspective, developing your financial plan, managing your investments, or keeping you on track at every step along the way.  I want to help you improve your life and get you where you want to go.  So, if you have a question, or an idea for something you’d like to see here, send it my way.

Practice What I Preach.  Insecurity aside, at the end of the day, I realized that I write this blog because I’ve been able to achieve all the things I promote.  My financial plan works.  So do my investments.  My cash flow.  My insurance.  My estate plan.  My remote business model.  My semi-retirement.  Even my personal experiments in retirement.

I’m not your typical financial or investment advisor, although I do have the credentials and professional experience that meets or exceeds those of many of the country’s top advisors at big firms. I’ve created a very unique lifestyle so I could start living the life I love by practicing what I preach. Because of this first-hand experience, I’m able to provide my clients concrete, holistic feedback on their financial, investment, and business lives; to empower them to live and support their ideal lifestyle.

My Commitment to You.  From now on, come hell or high water, I will find a way to regularly share the financial lessons I’ve learned, in a venue that can likely help you. Answers to topics that took me years to figure out, prove, or accept, about the nature of people and their money.

Of course, I can only share specific investment advice or answer specific financial planning questions with clients. If you are a client, please feel free to reach out with your questions. If you’d like to talk about becoming a client, contact me and I’d be happy to chat with you.
